Scribble: young readers, young writers festival Friday 6 - Saturday 7 February 2009 Despite being smack in the middle of this year's Heat Tsunami (the aggressive older brother of your typical heat wave) we had a fantastic time at our Scribble: young readers, young writers festival. After kicking things off with our school holiday program Write Club for 6-12 year olds (27-30 January) we were definitely in the young-reader mind-frame. We followed up with a schools day, where high school and primary school students got to meet some popular young adult and children's book authors and hear them talk about their latest projects, and how they turned their ideas into page-turners. Aspiring writers got to take part in one-on-one manuscript consultations with well known former publisher, Mark MacLeod, and those who braved the heat to come to our workshops and free seminars picked up knowledge and advice from the pros. We were very proud of our members who were willing to bear 40+ degrees for a chance to pick the brains of the experts, and we hope they got as much out of it as we did. | ||
Canberra's literary long weekend Friday 10 - Sunday 12 July 2009 This
year five organisations combined to offer ACT region readers and
writers a fabulous long weekend of literature. Three day-long events
took place: A Working with your publisher seminar (program here), Words change worlds (program here), and Readers, Writers, Critics (program here). The events were presented by the Australian Society of Authors, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, the Association for the Study of Australian Literature and the ACT Writers Centre and supported by the National Library of Australia, Olims Hotel, The Canberra Times, Festivals ACT, artsACT and the Australia Council.
