Australian Publishers' Association
The Australian Publishers Association (APA) is the peak industry body for Australian book, journal and electronic publishers. Established in 1948, the association is an advocate for all Australian publishers: large or small; commercial or non-profit; academic or popular; locally or overseas owned.
The APA was formerly known as the ABPA - the Australian Book Publishers Association. However, with magazine and e-publishers joining the fold, ‘book’ was dropped in 1996 to better reflect the diversity of our members. Before the ABPA, there were two local associations in Sydney and Melbourne - the New South Wales Publishers Association and the Victorian Publishers Association. These associations merged to form a national body, whose membership was - and still is - open to any person or company engaged in publishing in Australia, regardless of size or nationality of ownership.
